In the past few days, there has been a lot of talk of a potential boxing match between legendary retired boxer Floyd Mayweather and the UFC’s biggest star, Conor McGregor. Floyd himself has finally weighed in on the rumors, and he said they aren’t rumors at all.
“It’s possible…it was a name that was shot at me…the rumors that y’all been hearing is the rumors that I started…it may not be a rumor…keep y’all fingers crossed…it may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter.”
Floyd is 49-0, and announced his retirement following his victory over opponent Andre Berto.
However, it sounds like Floyd Mayweather is about to pick up the gloves and come out of retirement…
And his opponent would be none other than Conor McGregor.
When rumors of this fight broke, fans and insiders said it was complete nonsense and there was absolutely no way this fight could ever happen. Even Dana White himself denied the possibility.
Everyone except Floyd and Conor are saying that this fight won’t happen, but as you’ve seen in the video, Floyd is far from ruling out the possibility of a fight with Conor McGregor, and they’ve even started tossing around some numbers. Conor McGregor has long said that he is bigger than the entire sport of MMA, and it sounds like he’s ready to prove it.
It’s unclear how Conor’s current UFC contract will fit into all of this, but it’s possible that this fight could be co-promoted by Floyd and the UFC. The UFC may have lost their headliners for UFC 200, but they could get themselves a piece of a much bigger pie if they’re willing to play ball.
